Just a handful of quarters ago large-scale UK battery storage deployment was seen as a pipe dream, with sector cost reductions not quite at a point that would allow for economically viable investments. Yet the market is maturing rapidly, and, while enthusiasm has been tempered by derating changes enacted in December, this is nowhere better illustrated than in the 4.8GW of projects prequalified last month for National Grid’s imminent T4 capacity market auctions.
