Greenlight for Scotland’s largest solar park
Elgin Energy has received planning approval for its 50MW Milltown Airfield solar PV project near Elgin in Moray, Scotland.
The scheme – the largest consented solar PV project in Scotland to date – is also the first solar development to be approved by Scotland’s new Energy Consents Unit (ECU), which rules on project of 50MW or larger.
However, while Anglo-Irish developer Elgin now has the greenlight for the plant, it is not planning to start on its development until “the early 2020s,” the group said.
The development will occupy approximately 115 hectares of a former RAF Airfield on land owned by the Innes Estate.
Elgin Energy previously developed the largest operational solar farm in Scotland, Errol, a 13MW solar farm in Perth which was commissioned in 2016. It is currently developing additional sites throughout Scotland and the UK.
In September 2017 it sold an 8.2MW construction-ready project in Northern Ireland to Canadian Solar.
