The UK’s second CfD auction in 2017 was a resounding success for offshore wind with over 3GW of new capacity allocated, yet this could be dwarfed by the outcome of the next CfD round set for H1 2019. In a very best-case, industry players forecast in excess of 10GW of offshore wind could be awarded, should competition levels allow for the divvying out of available budget to all the schemes in the mix, and should all required project permits come in ahead of competition launch. Yet this might not be quite the scenario the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) is after, with a mooted MW cap whispered to be one option under consideration
